Chartes and Versailles

Friday, July 16

So because last week's excursion was a failure, the ACCENT center decided to make it up to us by making us wake up and leave at 8:00am so we could visit Chartes and Versailles without a breakfast or lunch included.
It was pretty nice, as it should be... but it was really tiring. Here are some highlights of the day trip. If you'd like to see all the photos I took they can be found in my Facebook albums below.

-Chartes and Versailles
-Versailles part deux

Chartes Cathedral

the stain glass was beautiful. Each window could be read like a book for the illiterate, telling a story.

The depiction on the ground is a symbol of a labyrinth, don't remember why it's relevant but these people looked like zombies to me.

panini lunch: this has lettuce in it, best I've had so far

dessert: custard tart/cake. t'was creamy

the gates of Versailles keeping us out. Damn!

Marie Antoinette and her 3 children

one of the few original pieces of furniture that has never been moved around

hall of mirrors, would be nice in it's original quality. Grand nonetheless

the beginning of the Gardens of Versailles

The smaller gardens were locked up on the weekdays due to funding. Looks like a pretty simple lock to pick

After Chartes we got back on the bus and got to Versailles an over an hour later. The naps in-between trips were great! After our second tour, our professor had an optional tour through the gardens, which i of course took. In the end we were given tickets and took the RER home. On the ride back we wanted to get some food and Mexican food came up. Our professor recommended one that she heard was good: second-hand information. We probably misheard some things or something, but when we got off the train, we were lost for an hour or so before we found the place.

we saw the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower when we were getting off the train.

space invader street art: done by a famous artist

Margarita! It's a really small cup

Mexican Plate: soggy taco but tasty, chimichanga, chili and cheese, and rice

Dessert: Apple tart w/ Chantilly and caramel sauce

What an exhausting and long day of walking....
