Sushi and Philharmonic

So to determine the winner, I went googled random number generator. I went to Random.org tried it out. For the most part, it looked pretty random so I set it up to randomly choose a number between 1 and 9. And the lucky winner is... Liz

Anyways... this past Tuesday, I was at home and made sushi for the family. I was under a bit of a time constraint, but made way too much (2 plates worth). It took about 2 hours with a little help from my sister. Next time, I'll take more photos and give more effort to present the sushi in a better manner. The most exciting thing for me was that I made spicy tuna for the first time and it was incredibly easy. The recipe I found online just mixed the following: tuna, siracha sauce, scallions, and mayo. That's it!

my parents don't care too much about how food looks. It's like extra credit.

Awhile back, my aunt forwarded me an email indicating that the LA Philharmonic would be playing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall for free($2 convenience fee not included). I took my family since they've never really done anything like this before. The Disney Concert Hall is very beautiful, inside and out. I believe the architect is the same as the one who constructed the Sydney opera house in Australia. If you've never been here before, definitely check out the "garden" upstairs. I like it on a weekday when it's entirely empty and all you hear is the wind blowing. The interior is always air conditioned, but the walls have a wood finish that flows throughout the halls. It complements and matches the actual orchestra hall very well. Now, I don't know too much about music theory or classical, but today, they did a simplified version of everything. They had an actual story line that introduced and explained pieces to the audience. For most of the younger audience this turned to be amusing and entertaining. For me, I got a little annoyed that there was so much "childish" humor and not enough music. In addition, they only played snippets of pieces. Some were even cut abrupt by the character providing comedic-relief. All in all, it was still nice to spend time with my family, so I wouldn't complain about it too much.

Interesting fact: the exterior of the opera house had to be sanded down because too many commuters on the freeway complained of the sun hitting their eyes from the reflection off the house. If you climb upstairs, you can find some areas of how shinny it used to be.

one time I came, I saw a bunch of art students sketching in random places of the opera house. the curvatures and points everywhere are exquisite

inside...just lovely
